Welcome to C-mine, Genk’s cultural heart – mixing up the radically local with what’s internationally outstanding. Our mission is clear and simple: we support the subcultures and vibrant energies that animate our neighbourhoods, while also focusing on top international talent.
Our lovingly crafted programme is based on five labels, which encapsulate the diversity of culture today: PLAY, MUSIC, DESIGN, WORDS and HOST.
PLAY
C-mine is the perfect place for families. We continue to find projects that get people playing: both young and old, in both digital and physical formats, indoors as well as outdoors. We create playful landscapes, ‘playscapes’, that energise C-mine and invite kids – and actually also their parents – to play, to move, and to build, in an environment that stimulates creativity.
MUSIC
Music connects us across cultures. Music gets us dancing, singing, partying, shouting… and sometimes crying. Music animates festivals, club gigs, sound art, music theatre, classical and jazz concerts, performances on stage; both under the stars in open air and even underground. Literally.
DESIGN
In recent years, C-mine has gained international recognition as a venue dedicated to major design exhibitions. Under this label, we will continue to attract ambitious projects to our historic site. Product developers, photographers, architects, fashion or graphic designers will explore Big Questions, including: What should the world of tomorrow look like? How do creatives think about the city of tomorrow? And what can we learn from them?
WORDS
Language empowers. Words bring meaning and comfort. You can read them aloud, chant or sing them, whisper them while dancing, rap or write them, or perform them to make a room full of people laugh. Under the Words label, C-mine will offer an extensive range of theatre, debates and lectures, but also spoken word and comedy.
HOST
C-mine is the place to be for a wide range of organisations, associations and companies. This post-industrial site is gifted with a sophisticated infrastructure and a great deal of in-house expertise. That’s why C-mine is the chosen venue for hundreds of events each year. This label brings together the work done by our residents, our site partners, and everyone who helps us re-energise our location: however briefly, always powerfully.
